Tremblant New Years with Kids
Often awarded the title of “best ski resort in North America”, Tremblant is well-known among the winter-sports enthusiasts. Since its opening in 1939, it has been a haven for skiers of all ages; when the pedestrian village was built in 1991, however, Tremblant became a large resort-community, welcoming visitors of all types and ages. Now, Tremblant is an ideal destination for a family-friendly vacation, with events and activities outside and indoors, for anytime of the year—especially an exciting time like New Years.
The snow is still the biggest attraction to this part of Quebec, some 75 miles away from Montreal International Airport. Kids and adults both take advantage of Mother Nature’s elements during the winter, separately and together as a family. In addition, parents can get their children special passes, such as “Adventure Day”, with full day ski/board lessons including lunch; geared to students 3-12, and there are different options you can choose. There is also a student pass, for the older ones aged 17-25, with discounted lift and rental prices.
Aside from the top-rate skiing and snowboarding lessons, which can be purchased in packages, there is still a plethora of ways to appreciate the slopes. Family favorite activities such as horseback riding, tubing, ice skating, sleigh rides, snowshoeing, and snowman making are all just part of the normal Tremblant day.
For the little ones in the family, not yet ready to hit the Bunny Slope, Tremblant offers guaranteed safety day care, so you can experience Mont Tremblant comfortably. Purchased in 4 hour packages, the Kid’s Club is open for children aged 1-6 years old, but reservations are required, and it does fill up. For information and to make reservations with the Snowschool or Kids Club, visit Tremblant Reservations. To contact via phone, call the Reservation Sales Center: for Canada & US, toll free at 1-888-738-1777; International & local: +1-514-876-7273; and in the UK: 0800 028-3476.
If the elements aren’t cooperating with your outdoor plans, there are still plenty of indoor ways you and your family can enjoy themselves in Tremblant. Le Studio Creatif, for example, is a nice switch from the movies, (there is a theater in Tremblant) where the artist emerges from everyone. Show your creative side with handmade pottery and paint a personalized ceramic souvenir! Kids always love this activity, and parents often find themselves getting involved and bringing something of their own home, too. To reach Le Studio Creatif, call 514-429-5599. For a softer activity, the Plush Factory opens its doors to Tremblant. Suitable for the youngest visitors of Tremblant, everyone can have their own special plush companion, with the ability to dress it up to their liking. For more information on this unique experience, visit universtoutou.com. There are hundreds of ways to make each child’s gift personalized!
Since every child likes toys, Tremblant has “cool and unusual” stores specifically for them. The Acme Jouets et Cadeaux is a special store filled with collectibles and L'atelier du Père Noel (phone: 819-681-2525) concentrates a Christmas-themed articles as well as Canadian souvenirs. Every member of the family will be awed at the interesting findings they uncover in the boutiques and Tremblant-only stores. It’s almost guaranteed that there will be at least one treasure you will want to take back home!
If you want the family to be immersed in art a bit, there are three galleries in Tremblant, all exceptional. One of the village’s best resorts, the Fairmont, has its own gallery with paintings and sculptures by renowned artists from Quebec, and can be visited on the web at http://www.art-tremblant.com/. There is also the Galerie Côté Créations, showcasing paintings by Mont-Tremblant artist Yan-Éric Côté, with one-of-a-kind creations that you won’t find anywhere else. For more info, log on to: Cote Creations. To show your family even more authentic culture of the Americas, take them to Galerie Soutana. With an exclusive look at the amazing work of native North and South America, specifically the Inuit tribe, the exhibits are always more than pleasing, and the collection is intriguing to almost any age. The history behind some of Canada’s earliest settlers is educational, and there is a fair amount of reasonably priced crafts for you to pick up. Call the gallery directly at 819-681-4550 for location and hours.
On New Year’s Eve, if you are looking for an exciting experience for everyone in the family to enjoy, head over to Snow Park. Known as one of North America’s best snow parks, there is an annual New Years Show, suitable for all ages and cool enough to awe teenagers and adults. The festivities include fireworks, ski and snowboard trick shows by Mount Tremblant instructors, and a torch-lit parade. With weather permitting, it usually begins around 9 pm, but can be moved to an earlier time depending on precipitation and temperature.
Tremblant is one of the few places with truly family-oriented activities and children-friendly and age appropriate events. If you are looking for a fun, unforgettable way to spend the end of 2007 with your family, Tremblant is definitely more than worth looking into, even if skiing isn’t why you travel here.
